Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow are used in most printing process' to make an entire visual gamut. With the addition of black and white, the hues can be toned and shaded to make the visual story complete. With these hues and values the visual designer can make universes to cater to any intention, mood, or concept. It is pretty amazing that all of the perceived hues we see in printed material are formulated by such a small set of base hues.
